The Creative Labs : Pretty Poms Workshop

Whilst I love working from home and connecting to so many of you through an amazing online community, there is always a little bit of me that misses connecting with people in the real world – the chit chat, the shared cake, the endless cups of tea and coffee. So when I got asked by TheCreative Journal to spend a Sunday full of colour, cake and lots of creatives in a light filled Melbourne studio – well I may have just done a little happy dance.

It was such a joy to be able to teach my Pretty Poms workshop, the first Creative Lab – a series of ‘creative day outs’ full of good company, good food (insert always lots of cake) in a picturesque location. Part of the joy of ‘handmade’ for me is the capacity to share and watch others learn and absorb the joy that I get out of creating.

The day began with a little colour therapy (as I like to call it) picking and choosing colour combinations for the day – I love watching everyone’s unique choices and regardless of how many I see, Im yet to see one I dislike.

And then the sharing began – from my how to tie a ‘fat knot’ tricks (you’ll have to come to one of my workshops to understand!!) to the folding, the sewing and the schuzzing (you’ll probably need to see that one in action too) and before you know it everyone was pomming up a storm.

The Creative Labs are far from the creative grind, so we were treated to a beautiful antipasto spread for lunch from Rosas Table before getting stuck into the hot glue gun and making a bit of a foliage frenzy.

Everyone left with their version of a pretty pom (actually lots of them!) and beautiful wreaths, chandeliers and floral crowns. Big thanks to Carly & Amanda of The Creative Journal for having me at their firth Creative Lab – make sure you head to their website for the next Creative Lab details ‘Hey there cupcake’ (and if you want to win a ticket – pop over to my facebook page for details!)

To see all the beauty the day entailed, head over to my (new and updated!) portfolio page and have a look at the 'pretty poms' tab (Huge thanks to Suzie from Lovely Day Films for the beautiful pics)

I look forward to hopefully creating more opportunities this year to connect in the real world over a creation and cup of tea

  1. This is gorgeous Sam! You are super clever. I taught three girlfriends to crochet a couple of weeks ago and it was such a joy to see them catch on and run with it! xx
